Prerequisites

• Experience developing web-pages, and good knowledge of HTML (not HTML editors). Javascript and CSS might be helpful, but won't be required.
• Programming background. This class is not a good first programming class. You should know at least one programming language well.
• MS Access.

Homeworks and Examples

Assignments will be available through this webpage. Homeworks are due on the day of class The programs are due by midnight, the hardcopies of the program by the beginning of class. If you hand in the homework late 20% will be taken off the score for each day.

• I have prepared a page with links covering some background topics like HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
• There is a HyperNews forum for questions related to the ECT410 class. There you can talk to other students and ask questions. You have to sign up as a member to post messages to the forum.

Classes and office hours

The class meets Th 5:45-9:00 in Lewis 1104.

My office hours are TuTh 4:00-5:30.

Literature

The required text for this class is Buser, Duckett, Francis, Kauffman, Llibre, Sussman, Ullman: Beginning Active Server Pages 3.0, Wrox Press Ltd, 1999. As an optional text for Homesite you can use Ben Forta, Teach yourself Homesite 4 in 24 Hours, Sams, 1999. 

Grading

Homework: 40%, Midterm Project: 25%, Final Project: 35%.

General Policies

Plagiarism:

The university and school policy on plagiarism can be summarized as follows: Students in this course, as well as all other courses in which independent research or writing play a vital part in the course requirements, should be aware of the strong sanctions that can be imposed against someone guilty of plagiarism. If proven, a charge of plagiarism could result in an automatic F in the course and possible expulsion. The strongest of sanctions will be imposed on anyone who submits as his/her own work a report, examination paper, computer file, lab report, or other assignment which has been prepared by someone else. If you have any questions or doubts about what plagiarism entails or how to properly acknowledge source materials be sure to consult the instructor.

Incomplete:

An incomplete grade is given only for an exceptional reason such as a death in the family, a serious illness, etc. Any such reason must be documented. Any incomplete request must be made at least two weeks before the final, and approved by the Dean of the School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems. Any consequences resulting from a poor grade for the course will not be considered as valid reasons for such a request.
