Homework 8 (due 11/15)

We talked about photons and animation. We also saw and discussed excerpts from

• The Simpsons

• North By Northwest (Alfred Hitchcock)

• Europa (Lars von Trier)

• Testament of Dr. Mabuse (Fritz Lang)

• Several shorts (including Luxo) by Pixar

1. [Animation, 25] Create an animated gobo (e.g. a ceiling fan throwing its shadow onto the floor of a room, but feel free to come up with your own idea) that leads to varying lighting in your scene. This problem is mostly about the animation, so you can keep the scene itself simple.

Note: for this assignment hand in  your .pov, and .ini files as well as the .avi file you create. Also, include a short scene description (not a story).

2. [Extra Credit] Make the animation and scene more interesting (this will require a storyline as well as a description).

Submission:

• For questions asking for renderings, submit both .pov and .bmp files (either by email, or on disk).
• Collect the answers to your written questions and submit them on paper
• If you submit multiple items, please place them together in a labeled envelope
• Make sure everything your submit (emails, disks, pieces of paper) is clearly labeled and contains your name
